Nonprescription FDgard® is a medical food specially formulated for the dietary management of FD (Functional Dyspepsia, or recurring indigestion).† Each FDgard capsule contains caraway oil and l-Menthol, the primary component of peppermint oil. A combination of caraway oil and l-Menthol has been shown in several clinical studies to be effective in the management of FD.1 Until now, targeted delivery to the upper belly has posed a challenge. FDgard utilizes SST® (Site-Specific Targeting) to deliver individually triple-coated, targeted-release, solid-state microspheres of caraway oil and l-Menthol quickly and reliably where they are needed most in FD – the upper belly.
In addition to caraway oil and l-Menthol, FDgard also provides fiber and amino acids (from gelatin protein).
In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial, FDgard, taken daily and proactively, 30 to 60 minutes before meals, twice a day, provided significant benefits at 24 hours.2 This study was peer-reviewed and presented at the two largest gastroenterology meetings, DDW and ACG, in 2017.
Since FDgard symptoms are typically meal-triggered, FDgard can be a “PreMeal Companion” for those who desire to enjoy and complete their meals and to get the nutritional benefits of good eating.
As a medical food, FDgard should be used under medical supervision. FDgard is available nationally in the digestive aisle in
CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, and RiteAid stores.
